Strategy 2:

Good Growth and Learning Opportunities

Learning isn't limited to the classroom. Broadened horizons; opportunities to create and discover; seeing new and different perspectives; interacting with diverse populations and environments: these experiences shape and mold young minds, stimulate creativity and increase the desire to learn.

The Grand Rapids Community Foundation provides support to programs that give young people opportunities for new and different experiences.

Youth Enrichment Scholarship Program (YESP) This innovative program focuses on providing summer enrichment opportunities and experiences for elementary age children who otherwise may not have this chance.

Experience Corps is a mentoring program in which older adults work to solve literacy problems in urban public schools.

Write/Create/You consists of a series of creative writing workshops hosted in Grand Rapids Public Schools throughout the school year. Each month, one school will host six workshops with six different instructors, including local authors, performers and other writing professionals. Selected pieces are featured on the WGVU website.
