Strategy 4:

Good College Opportunities

Start your scholarship process here!

Education beyond high school is a key element to a student’s lifetime success.  A study released in January 2008 by Michigan Future, Inc. showed that areas with high concentrations of well-educated workers not only have more households with incomes of $75,000 or more, but also have fewer households with incomes of less than $25,000.  Further, wages for non-college educated workers are declining, while wages for college graduates continue to increase.

Each year, the Community Foundation awards over $500,000 in scholarships to local students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or technical training.

Scholarship funds are established through the generosity of many Community Foundation donors and are generally available to students who are residents of Kent County, demonstrate financial need and carry a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.  Several scholarships have been created to meet the needs of residents from other counties and those with other special academic or life circumstances.

Applications are available January 1 and due April 1 each year. Decisions are announced after June 20.
